Days 10-12 saw major temperature changes. The 10th and 11th were HOT leaving Warner Springs. I switched to shorts to enjoy the breeze and compare shorts to pants.
After 2 days in shorts, my legs were muddy from a combination of trail dust and sunscreen. They also suffered several scratches and insect bites.
I put on some light pants again and immediately collided with a cactus. That confirmed my choice of pants: my legs survived while my bare hands itched for hours.
We ended up hitchhiking from PVC to Idyllwild due to a pending storm. The wind and snow hit Mount San Jacinto hard and several hikers abandoned the mountain. The next day it rained in the city and the expected low in the mountains above was 9 degrees!
We took a day and a half off in the city (Idyllwild is a great place for a zero!) and would return to PVC tomorrow to start where we left off.
Happy trails!!!!
