Get the band together

I woke up to a quiet, humid campsite. A storm passed during the night and added a subtle almost white noise-like effect. The campground hosts said it felt like 20°F last night, so I’m glad my gear kept me warm and dry. I slept like a baby although I wish I had company.

It took me a long time to get ready, enjoy breakfast, and let my tent dry in hopes that my early trail family would catch up. My wish came true because the moment I got back to the trail I saw someone from day 1! I was very happy! He gave me a package of M&Ms and congratulated me on surviving my first night alone.

Get the band together

We passed the 50 mile mark just before reaching a picnic rest stop where I met up with two other people from Day 1. Then Cool Beans rolled up! Then another hiker! The team is back together!!!

I walked with one person most of the day. We ran into another guy and the three of us broke into camp spending time talking about crazy animal trivia. I had to tell them about how wild banana slugs are, of course.

We met Salt, who supports Tetris on its journey. Salt has a big truck and hauls gallons of water, saving us from having to filter from the horse trough. Chatting with him we learned that he finished his triple crown by completing the CDT in 86 days. Wild.

There is a large group of us at camp tonight. We had some nice chats over dinner, sharing more about our lives and reasons for hiking the trail. It was a cold and windy evening, so most of us went to bed around 6:30. There was a layer of dust covering the entire inside of my tent, so I’m crossing my fingers that the wind dies down tonight.
