Man United skipper Bruno Fernandes wins FWA Player of the Year award

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was announced as the winner of the Football Writers Association’s Men’s Footballer of the Year award.

The Portuguese maestro played a crucial role in securing UEFA Champions League qualification for the Red Devils despite the sacking of Ruben Amorim mid-season.

Despite completing another season without a trophy, the FA Cup winner of two seasons ago has found new life under interim manager Michael Carrick.

The 31-year-old has scored eight goals and 19 assists in the Premier League this season and is on the verge of breaking the single-season record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin de Bruyne.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice finished second behind Fernandes, just 28 votes behind the Portuguese midfielder, who earned 45 percent of the votes polled. Man City striker Erling Haaland finished third.

Manchester City forward Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw won the Women’s Player of the Year award after leading the team to the Women’s Super League title with 19 league goals.
