Big Bald, that is. Wow! What an incredible view from up there. You could really see why they call them the Blue Ridge Mountains today. It sure was windy and cold this morning!
Route report
To start the day it was very cold and windy. But in the afternoon it was nice warm. I was able to get some tremendous views of Big Bald! God is amazing!
Over the years I have learned to listen to my wife. After being so tired yesterday, she told me to take more breaks. In addition to my lunch break, I took a break in the afternoon. I found a clear, spring-fed pool and was able to soak in knee-deep cold water. It felt amazing! I felt rejuvenated for the rest of the day.
It was amazing to see some of Helene’s devastation today. Many thanks to the Carolina Mountain Club volunteers who worked so hard to open the trail!

I felt very good when I arrived at camp. I passed right by the No Business Knob shelter and found a nice flat spot nestled between some trees. It’s supposed to be very cold tonight.

Thought of the day
Not all thoughts of the day will be profound. This is a perfect example. Today’s thought is: Slim Jims are disgusting. I couldn’t find real meat sticks in Hot Springs. So I bought Slim Jims. Now I’m pretty sure they don’t actually contain much meat.
I’m not really sure what they contain. But they are disgusting and disgusting. I had to eat 3 of them during this stretch because of the calories, but I won’t buy them again.
people i met
I met Weatherman today. He’s a section hiker and, as you may have guessed, he’s also a meteorologist. He works for the National Weather Service in Florida. I have a very close friend who also works for the National Weather Service where I’m from. Small world! I shared with him my reasons for walking the trail. I hope I have encouraged you.
Plant of the day
The plant of the day is the large-leaved Water Leaf. This plant caught my attention because it had an unusual color and texture. It turns out that it is a plant from the borage family.

bird of the day
Today’s bird is the American robin. It is a common bird that is quite large and can gather in large flocks. However, so far I have only heard a few of them.
