Real Madrid’s Mendy to undergo surgery: reports

Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy underwent surgery on Monday for a recurring right thigh injury. AFP learned from a medical source.

The operation, which was carried out in Lyon, went well, the source said, and the player was expected to return within three to four months.

There were fears the 30-year-old Frenchman could be out for a year due to the career-threatening problem which flared up again during a La Liga match on May 3.

This was the fifth injury this season for the former Le Havre and Lyon player, who came through the Paris Saint-Germain youth system.

Mendy earned ten caps for France between 2018 and 2024.
