- Seeley Woodworth Refuge (823.4) to the priest shelter (830.0)
- 1647 feet ascent, 1558 feet decrease
The priest’s mountain has a fearsome reputation. I did not read the details of the Nobo escalation, so I programmed a shorter day. Our day was unexpectedly full of art, music, poetry and grace instead of climbing.
Nobo, the climb is relatively easy, only 1647 feet. Sobos gets the 3400 feet rise. We collect memories today that will feed our long descent tomorrow.
Art Injustice
Early in our day we spent an art installation. We have seen others periodically and we always enjoy them. We suspect that the same hiker is doing them, since they share characteristics characteristics, but we have not been able to identify an artist.
Today’s installation was a miniature shelter site. There was even a distance from a distance. The previous facilities have included a mile score and a tent site.
This installation saw almost two weeks before.
The rock not taken
After a short climb, we reach the spy rock plateau. The signs told us of rare native plants that grow in the area. He encouraged hikers to remain on the road and facilitate their passage in the land area. Clearly, there has been a battle between some lazy hikers and paths of trails.
Fortunately, most hikers are respectful and maintainers of vigilant trails. The earth is recovering and beautiful.
We went to the rock, but we decided that our goal was the AT, there is no particular rock. While we move away from the very trampled path, I sang Robert Frost’s poem, THE ROAD NO TAKEM,
Two diverged paths in a yellow wood,
And I’m sorry, I couldn’t travel to both
And I know a traveler, for a long time I stood up
And he looked at the further I could
Where he folded in the weed;
. . .
I will be saying this with a sigh
Somewhere somewhere in ages and ages:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I …
I took the least
And that has made all the difference.
Frost’s cadence and words patterns have always attracted me. I learned this poem to sing the Randall Thompson Musical adaptation of the poem almost 60 years ago. If you have a few minutes, we recommend the recording of this Tamu choir for you.
Knowing Gazelle again
Like many places on the Sender of the Apalaches, the next section was the second growth forest that showed previous room signs.
At a crossing of an old unused road, we met Gazelle for the second time. She Us, a triple Corwner and Uktra Runner. She is trying to be a faster moment of knowledge for an autonomous walk.
The day before, when we first met her, she decreased speed and shared her story that Amd listened to ours. He moved us that she showed so much interest. After walking at our rhythm, so it seemed an eternity, we urged her to continue, anxious that her FKT was not interrupted by our last year.
Today, he stopped again to visit us. I was surprised that she was behind us. He explained that he had slept during the night he sent him a refueling by mail. All of us had hooked or transferred to our replenishment. She walked to his in Montebello.
Again, he stopped to visit and asked for a photo, saying that NY Return after the 50 -year -old history inspired her. It made me cry that my story inspired her. Your FKT inspires us all. We respect the incredible FKT efforts of the hikers supported, but doing everything on their own in some way seems closer to us.
Aftet taking the photo, she slid elegantly with the grace of a dancer. We have great faith in your effort and, as the unaccoiled path will always be different from our moving encounter with this magnificent woman.
An early end
The rest of the priesty shelter’s walk was undulating and easily achieved. There were some rocky sections that required attention, but in general, it was a soft trail with open forests.
We arrived at the Priest refuge at 3:30 pm after a mentally stimulating day, we appreciate the time to consolidate our experiences. I spent time writing and the historian enjoyed a nap.
We both enjoy our healthy food dinner. We exceed our organic food of full food with the Newton’s store, since both were high in calories and heavy.
Everything we had in our packages fit on the bear bags tonight. Everything we had in our hearts spilled and we will fill our world for «ages, therefore,» we take the right path.
