Barcelona’s hopes of reaching the 100-point mark in La Liga ended with a 0-1 defeat at Alaves on Wednesday. Ibrahim Diabate scored the winner from inside the penalty area in stoppage time of the first half.
Barcelona clinched its second league title in a row on Sunday with a 2-0 win over rival Real Madrid at home, needing three wins in their last three games to reach 100 points.
The loss ended an eleven-match winning streak for the Catalan club.
«A bit disappointed with the result, we all wanted to win today,» said Barcelona coach Hansi Flick. «But in the end I saw good things, I am happy with the team’s performance.»
Alaves’ players formed a guard of honor for the Barcelona team before the match, lining up and applauding their rivals as they entered the pitch.
It was a big victory for Alaves, which moved out of the relegation zone. It reached 15th place with 40 points, one point ahead of the bottom three with two rounds to go.
“It’s not clear yet, but it was a big step,” said Alaves striker Toni Martínez.
