According to reports, Xabi Alonso will take over as Chelsea manager next season.
The 44-year-old has been without a job since being sacked by his former club Real Madrid in January following his side’s Spanish Super Cup defeat to Barcelona.
He will take over from interim manager Calum McFarlane, who took over from Liam Rosenior, who lasted less than four months following the New Year’s departure of Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea are in ninth place and their hopes of European football next season seem very slim, especially after Saturday’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester City.
The appointment would mark Alonso’s return to the Premier League for the first time since 2009, when he left Liverpool after five years.
Alonso’s first major managerial role came at Bayer Leverkusen, with whom he led the side to a domestic double in the 2023-2024 season.
