Virginia’s motto is «Virginia is for lovers.» Well, after 4 weeks, I finally arrived in the land of lovers. I’m finally in Virginia! Not only that, but today I arrived at Trail Town USA and stayed at the Wheeler Inn in Damascus.
Route report
I started today with a spectacular sunrise. I wanted to get to Damascus as soon as possible to maximize my time in the city.
I checked into thWheeler Inn. I dropped off my dirty clothes and headed to the Damascus Diner. I had a double bacon cheeseburger and a big piece of meatloaf. They were both amazing! You can always understand how good a diner is by his meatloaf.
I spent the afternoon sitting on the porch of the inn watching people. Today is the citywide garage sale. So… there are people everywhere.

I had to get rid of my sleeping pillow after patching the 4th hole and then found 2 more. I bought a different one at the store in town.
I dined at my namesake: Wilson’s Cafe. I had the ribeye and crab cakes. It was delicious!
Thought of the day
Personal safety is important. I was planning on walking Highway 58 after reading some FarOut reviews. However, Pat at the inn said it was a very bad idea. It turns out that Highway 58 had a lot of sharp curves with no shoulders.
So I’m going to take the detour. I will miss some places on the AT, but my safety is more important.
people i met
Met Thunder Chicken today. He also stayed at the Wheeler Inn. She’s doing the whole state of Virginia. I told him about my appreciation for God’s creation.
Plant of the day
Today’s plant is once again the rhododendron. I chose this one again because they are really starting to bloom now. They line the path with clusters of pink flowers.

bird of the day
Today’s bird is the gray catbird. This bird is typically found near water. It has a very complex song and sometimes imitates the songs of other birds.
