Leeds promise a ban on homophobic chants during the match in Brighton

Leeds United have promised to hand out long-term stadium bans to supporters deemed responsible for homophobic chants during Sunday’s 1-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion at Elland Road, the Premier League club said on Monday.

The club said it was aware of the chants and reiterated that discriminatory abuse has no place in football, adding that additional cameras had been placed in the stands to help identify those involved.

Ahead of the match, the Yorkshire club had warned fans to remind them of a zero-tolerance policy, noting that a previous incident during a match against Brighton in March 2023 had resulted in a 150,000 pound ($201,315) fine from the Football Association and a mandatory action plan.

Daniel Farke’s side won on Sunday after a late injury time goal from striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, extending their unbeaten league run to eight games.
