Ladies Euro 2025: Spain reaches knockouts, Portugal keeps a campaign alive after drawing vs Italy

Striker Alexia Putellas scored twice for world champion Spain When Belgium defeated 6-2 in the Euro group B Clash of their wives on Monday, a result that guaranteed the progress of the Spaniards to the knockout phase after Portugal had not defeated later in the day.

Spain took the lead by Putellas halfway through the first half, but was returned almost immediately thanks to a Justine Vanhaevermaet header from a corner. The Spaniards still continued during the break, after Captain Irene Paredes had driven his own towering header home from a set of piece.

Hannah Eurlings again set the Belgium level for five minutes in the second half, only for Esther Gonzalez to restore Spain’s leadership two minutes later, and Mariona Caldentey made the most out of Belgium to erase a corner, which reached 4-1 in the 61st minute.

A brilliant curly effort from Claudia Pina effectively ended the match in the 81st minute, and Putellas yielded her second four minutes of time to put Spain at the top of the group on six points and to eliminate the Belgians, who lost their opening match against Italy 1-0.

The Eurocampagne of Portugal still lives with Italy after 1-1

A final gasp equalizer by Portugal’s Diana Gomes against Italy in an exciting 1-1 draw kept the euro campaign of her country alive when her strike had canceled a stinging second half goal from Cristiana Girelli on Monday.

Le Azzurre thought they were because of the quarterfinals after Girelli scored in the 70th minute, so that the ball was moved to her right foot on the edge of the box before he let go of a curly shot in the right -hand corner that goalkeeper Patricia Morais had little chance to stop.

But Gomes brought the Portugal level in the 89th when a corner hit the bar and the Portuguese worked the ball back in the box for Gomes to shoot home, causing their raw fans, who sang drums and drums during the night, in the extreme delirium.

The draw spoiled the chance of Italy to conquer a berth in the knockout round on Monday, with Spain the only group B team that has guaranteed a quarter -final place so far.
