Day 28: A blue fire, trail magic and search connection

The rain pattern against the store woke us both. The Nauman store site only had wooden platforms to configure our tents, so the water began to accumulate around us creating a kind of pit. I will never understand why tents platforms are the site chosen for AMC. Someone please illuminate me.

In silence we packed our things so as not to bother our neighbors, Alpaca, Pangea and his Abby puppy. I have a vague memory that they return from their work for stay last night, around 9 pm. Nick and I were asleep, but Alpaca asked if we wanted any excess cake. So beautiful friends.

We have breakfast under a canvas erected by caregivers. Cold oatmeal with a strawberry carpet breakfast, a cold instant coffee side and 8 oz of dust to keep us healthy. I prefer cold instant oatmeal at this time. I add extra water to drink it as a shake.

While we advanced, I saw a big bird so close to us! It was not super gradual because we were there, just cleaning us. I took my SEEK application and discovered that it was a urogal. We have seen a lot of Urogallo so far, they sound like motorcycles trying to fly if you get too close.

Our mileage for today was not huge. We needed to make a very small refueling to make sure we can overcome Francia Ridge successfully. According to some of the nobles we have known, it is comparable to the presidential tour that we complete yesterday. So, if we need to take an extra day to guarantee a good weather window, we can.

We got in touch with some transport services because we hear that it is difficult to get hooked to the city. They realized a man named Ziggy who agreed to transport us for $ 70. I did not feel good when spending more on a walk than our food supply, so I rejected. Nick called another man who affirmed that no one would pick us up because there is no service at the beginning of the path and, «what happens if he fell and hit your head? He would only be sitting there waiting for you on the way.» He gave Nick a speech that gives all hikers about the city. I was starting to get cold there, so I told him to end the call.

Eventually, we decided to simply fly it and see what happens. It was a short day, so even if we had to make the four -mile walk to the store, so it is.

Luckily, we arrived at a crossroads that would take us directly to the store we wanted to go. It was not a target on the path, but it was a similar mileage and cut our road walk. I still had enough service to review another Maps application, and indeed, we would leave just where we wanted to be. Our first blue fire! Most people end up taking secondary missions at some point. Unless you are a purist, there are so many options to change things a bit. And for us, there were a couple of soup bowls and sandwiches waiting at the bottom of the hill.

We arrive at Crawford Notch. There were a lot of cars at the beginning of the path on this foggy and rainy Saturday. Our short -term refueling point was just ahead. We could see the AMC Highlands center from the top of Mount Washington yesterday. The campus is huge. Our guide has this marked as a short -term supply and a hot food bar, which is just what we needed.

Day 28: A blue fire, trail magic and search connection

We entered and put our packages in a supply closet for hikers and headed directly to the cafeteria. They opened at 11 in the morning for lunch, which is the time we arrived. Our hiking cards that we receive in one of the shelters have a soup, bread and $ 6 beer combo. We also have a pair of paninis. We took a couple of cold sandwiches to go for dinners tonight and tomorrow night.

We are grouped in our rain team because we were going to recover a hitch to the AT or have to walk four miles. It was the third car that stopped that stopped. This bronco had two people who headed to Katahdin for their biannual summit and generally collect hikers around here. We sat on your dog’s seats for the fast trip.

Once they left us, we went directly on a hill on a road until we reached the railroad tracks. Just before crossing, we find our first magic of the path! Trail Magic are gifts that generally offer generous people who currently do not walk. Our gifts were cold drinks. We both drink bright water.

The rain began again when we started our rise. It was just a few miles from the area that we wanted to camp tonight, and the land was quite easy.

We stopped at the Ethan Pond shelter to dry and heat our soaked clothes. A red squirrel was getting too comfortable near our bags.

A woman began to walk towards the shelter, so I moved and my things to give her space. She immediately recognized the two! It turns out that she reads my publications on the walk. Shoutout A Blue Bear! We exchanged information about the next sections and talked for a while before Nick and I had to move on.

It’s great to know that this blog has reached so many people. Just today, while we ate at the AMC center, I was looking at Facebook and I saw that my Linda Aunt and her mother have a physical map in which they are tracking us while reading my publications. How great is that? I have had my friends and family, as well as Nick the scope to tell us that they are following our trip. I wasn’t sure if I was going to publish every day, but now I feel an attraction to take them all with me every day.

So, every day, dear reader, to continue the advanced, it doesn’t matter every day, it’s a pleasure. It is a homework to go to bed and write in my notes application, but I don’t want to miss any of the finest details.
