Manchester United announce Michael Carrick as permanent manager until 2028

Manchester United have decided to extend Michael Carrick’s stay as manager, tying him to a new permanent contract, the Premier League club announced on Friday.

Carrick, who took charge on an interim basis after Ruben Amorim was sacked, oversaw the club’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League with 11 wins from 16 matches, achieving the highest number of points in the Premier League since his arrival.

“From the moment I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Taking on the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with enormous pride,” Carrick was quoted in a press release.

“Over the past five months, this group of players has shown that they can achieve the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.

Carrick’s performance thus convinced the board to continue his stay on a permanent basis. As a result, the former England and United midfielder signed a contract until 2028.

«Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to compete for the greatest honor once again,» Carrick said.
