Getting back on the trail this morning was a bit tricky. We hadn’t arranged a ride, so I scheduled a Lyft to take us back thinking availability in Big Bear on a Sunday morning would be good. I wasn’t assigned a driver and we had a 20 mile day planned, so we went in two cars. Directly, Floki and I were in front and Penguin and Luis were behind. Scratch was resting his wound one more night in the house of a path angel.
It was a warm day leaving Big Bear. We stopped for our first snack when Straight Up told me the news. Cool Beans wasn’t feeling well. He said he wasn’t feeling very well this morning before we left, but I guess after we got to the trail and walked a mile he got sick. He returned to the trailhead with some trail angels to hydrate, rest, and come up with his plan.

Our hike today was pretty flat with nice views all day. Getting back on the trail brings this overwhelming sense of calm after the chaos of being in the city trying to get chores done and get some rest at the same time. It’s funny to leave the city after a zero and it’s almost more relaxing than the zero itself.

I took a second long break to eat something and rest my feet. For a while we walked around with a ball sack (named for the sack of massage balls he carries with him). She is in the midst of working toward her border-to-border calendar year triple crown. Yesterday on the road it reached 3000 miles! Wild. We arrived at camp pretty early, around 4:00 pm, and right where we entered we found Jug. He was returning to the trail after hiking and spending time with his girlfriend. We set up our tents and sat around the camp picnic table for dinner.

It’s very hot tonight. I set up my tent with both vestibules open to keep cool tonight. It looks like we’re in for a hot week.
