Women’s Super League (WSL) Golden Boot winner Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester City, extending her stay to what would be nine seasons at the club.
There was speculation that Shaw would leave City for Chelsea at the end of the season, but she revealed the news on stage at the club’s end-of-year festive event at the Co-op Live Arena, just weeks after City won its first WSL title in a decade.
The Jamaican international enjoyed one of her most prolific campaigns, finishing as the competition’s top scorer for the third year running with 21 goals in 22 games as City.
The new contract will reportedly make her the highest-paid women’s footballer in the world, with the forward set to earn more than £1million per season until 2030.
“I’m so happy to have another four years with this incredible club,” said Shaw. “I have always said that Manchester City feels like home. I have developed enormously as a player and grown enormously as a person during my first five years here.
“Helping the girls win the WSL title is one of the proudest moments of my career, and I’m so excited to see what we can do next season and beyond… although there’s still a big game against Brighton ahead.”
City will play Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.
