Today I woke up early so I could restock at the Walmart in Hamburg. The climbs on this section are largely just gaps in the cities. From Eagles Nest I walked 8 miles to the Schuylkill Trail. Schuylkill Trail is a wide multi-use trail that runs to Walmart most of the way. Everyone else went to Five Guys but I just did my refill.
This was a resupply store, very full of bars and ramen. I bought six different bars for six days and two boxes of crustless cookies for snacks. For dinner I eat four days of ramen (two for each) and two days of protein potatoes (also two for each). Breakfast consists of three packets of protein oats and protein pop tarts. They put protein in everything. I had a pint of ice cream and a protein drink to eat while I packed my food. Is so much food necessary? For me, yes.
After my resupply, I returned to the trail and passed through Port Clinton. The Port Clinton Barber Shop is not listed in FarOut. It’s a shame as it was a great stop. In addition to my haircut, I had coffee and cookies while we chatted. Before I left they filled one bottle with water and the other with Gatorade.
The rocks have begun
When leaving the town the climb was steep. Course par for this section. The next section had a little more ups and downs, but nothing too severe. Between resupply and the haircut I didn’t have time to move on, so I stopped at the Windsor Furnace shelter. This turned out to be a great choice because I met two people from Wisconsin!
