Bia Zaneratto scored the goal in the 14th minute and Brazil received a boost from a raucous home crowd in a 2-1 win over the United States on Saturday.
Sophia Wilson scored for the American women, who have lost two of nine matches so far this year.
Wilson’s goal came less than two minutes into the match on a left-footed shot from the top of the box. It was her first goal for the United States since returning from maternity leave in April. Wilson has 25 international goals.
Brazil leveled the match in the 11th minute after Taina Maranhão’s header to the far post. A short time later, the Brazilians took a 2-1 lead when Zaneratto took a pass from Dudinha and sent it over the outstretched leg of American goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn.
It was the first of two friendly matches between the teams. They meet again on Tuesday in Fortaleza.
Mallory Swanson was on coach Emma Hayes’ American squad for the first time in 18 months, after the forward took time off for parental leave.
Swanson’s inclusion reunited her with Trinity Rodman and Sophia Smith, who have not played together since the 2024 Olympics. Swanson scored in the 1-0 win over Brazil for the gold medal in Paris.
Rodman and Smith started the match while Swanson was available off the bench but did not play.
Rodman was removed from the game in the final minutes of regulation after she went down and was treated by trainers on the court. Her injury was unclear, but she walked to the sideline without assistance.
The matches will be the first matches away from US soil for the United States since November 2024.
Marta was on the bench for Brazil, which won five of seven matches this year but did not play.
Women’s World Cup matches will be played in the stadiums of Sao Paulo and Fortaleza next summer. The United States will try to qualify for the tournament starting in late November during the CONCACAF W Championship.
