The Bath Oasis (Day 35)

As a hiker, you always have the best lunch spots! On top of a mountain, next to a stream or, last but not least, in a public bathroom! Sometimes life is that simple.

The big climb of the day is Roan Mountain. It’s 5 miles up and 5 miles down. Roan Highlands are great!

Appy Road

This section has very pretty grass and moss! And the pine trees are coming back! It feels like the Smokys again. I always love higher elevation forests!

Old wounds that return

While the forest is very pretty, my feet have seen better days. I have had wet socks, shoes and feet for the past few days. It’s raining a lot and if not, the bushes along and above the trail are still wet and soaking your shoes and socks. I dry my things and my feet as often as I can, but the constant humidity of the last few days is taking its toll on my feet. I hope we have some dry days soon!

Does anyone want a bath omelet?

At the top of the mountain there is an old lot where a large hotel used to be. Very cool! But even better were the bathrooms in the parking lot! There we sheltered from the rain. Luckily for us, the bathrooms were open too! A dry place to sit, clean drinking water, and some paper towels to dry our feet. There are worse places to have lunch here!

The Bath Oasis (Day 35)

The weather cleared up a bit and we began the descent. We arrived at Carvers Gap. A lovely lady picking up her daughter was also making some magic on the trail! A cold drink is unbeatable after a long walk. That’s amazing, thank you!

After the gap, we went to some very cool bald spots with incredible views! Despite the weather, it was very cool today!
