French defender Konate to join Real Madrid: reports

French defender Ibrahima Konate is set to join Real Madrid, according to reports.

Last month, Liverpool confirmed that the 27-year-old would leave the club after five years in which he won the Premier League, FA Cup and two League Cup titles.

Real Madrid boss Florentino Perez, who was re-elected club president on Sunday evening, had promised last week that the centre-back would be his first signing and also promised to sign Jose Mourinho as coach.

Real will be his fourth club after playing for Sochaux, RB Leipzig and Liverpool, and he will join national teammates Kylian Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga.

According to reports, the official announcement of his arrival on a deal until 2030 is expected on Tuesday.

Konate is also part of the France squad heading to the World Cup this summer and will compete for a place in the starting XI with Arsenal’s William Saliba and Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano.
