It was another quiet day in the forest. As I said above, for the past few weeks, the number of hikers I see on any given day has been pretty low. I meet the same small group of people on the trail and at camp every day, but it’s nothing compared to the crowds we saw before Trail Days. I’m not sure if the nearest bubble is in front of me or behind me, but I’m certainly sitting in a moment of calm.
go to confession
The highlight of today was an afternoon visit to the Priest Shelter. I’m glad another hiker reminded me of their tradition, because I probably would have forgotten about it and skipped it entirely. For those who don’t know, hikers use the Priest Shelter logbook to «confess» their sins on the trail.
At the risk of contracting norovirus, I flipped through some parts of the notebook. Confessions ranged from serious to disgusting to funny to disappointing and back again. Luckily for these sinners, I won’t expose anyone online for clicks. You will have to come and read the book yourself.
A place to visit again
I’ll end the night at one of our most beautiful campsites so far. I must take note of the best places so I can visit them again one day. We’re camping by the River Tye. A suspension bridge passes over it and has a kind of rocky «beach» on both sides. I sat on the shore, washing and getting my feet wet.

I had dinner on a rock by the water. Summer in the air, and I watched as what I think was a rainbow trout swam in and out of the current. I’m thinking it would be nice if my family were here. My little niece could dip her toes in the water.
