Premier League side Crystal Palace was dropped in the European competition to the third-row Conference League in a multi-club ownership shop, while Olympique Lyonnais can play in the Europa League, UEFA said Friday.
The Eagle Football Group are majority owners of Lyon, while the chairman John Textor also has a controlling interest in Palace.
Palace had qualified for the Europa League by winning the FA Cup last season, while Lyon reached the competition by finishing sixth in Ligue 1.
A switch to relegate it to the Interior Second-class Ligue 2 of France on his bad finances was destroyed on Wednesday, a decision that UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) had waited before he ruled the Multi-Club ownership.
«Consequently, the CFCB First Chamber followed the assessment of the documentation submitted by Olympique Lyonnais and Crystal Palace and concluded that the clubs violated the criteria for several clubs on 1 March 2025,» UEFA said in a statement.
Palace can still appeal against the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
