Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid is a young winger from Qatar who is taking his first steps in the football world. Currently with Al-Duhail, the nineteen-year-old has just completed his breakthrough season in the recently concluded Qatar Stars League, making fourteen appearances and scoring once.
Although only four of the fourteen appearances were starts, it is a significant amount of playing time for a side that finished fifth in the league. He also played four times for the Qatar senior team.
Tahsin was born and raised in Qatar, but his parents are Keralites by origin. As a result, the nineteen-year-old is still an Indian citizen, making him the first Indian passport holder to be called up for a FIFA World Cup.
This is because he holds a special Qatari mission passport, a document that allows foreign-born athletes to represent Qatar in international competitions without having to surrender their original passports.
The nineteen-year-old is a right-footer who has been deployed on both flanks by Al-Duhail. The youngster’s best attribute is undoubtedly his speed, which will allow him to be an asset for both club and country on the counter-attack. Some of his best goals for Qatar’s youth teams have come from quick counter-attacks down his wing. His pace also makes him effective at pressuring defenders.
While he probably has a high ceiling, he is not yet the complete product. He is prone to the occasional touch that goes too far off his feet, or making a mistake in his final third decision-making.
With the quality of Qatar’s attacking line-up, including talisman Akram Afif, captain Hassan al-Haydos and Tahsin’s clubmate Almoez Ali, a starting spot seems unlikely. However, his pace and energy will likely make him an asset that head coach Julen Lopetegui could bring off the bench to change the game.
