FIFA World Cup 2026: England players shelter indoors amid tornado warning in Kansas City

Kansas City, England’s home base for the World Cup, was hit with a tornado warning just hours after the team arrived, as the weather service told residents to take shelter to avoid a severe thunderstorm.

The weather service said the storm could produce winds of up to 80 miles per hour, and tornado sirens sounded Saturday evening.

«Seek shelter in a sturdy building, away from windows. Flying debris can be fatal to those caught without shelter,» a weather warning told residents.

According to British media reports, England players were also ordered to stay indoors and a fan festival in the city was closed early to ensure safety.

The England side, who were hit by a theft of training equipment before arriving in Kansas City, had a community training session in the afternoon before tornado warnings came into effect. England will play the first World Cup match in Group L against Croatia in Arlington on Wednesday.
