Wo-oh, I’m halfway there – The Trek

I hiked 1,099 miles on the Appalachian Trail and I’m already halfway there. Below are some stats from the first half of the trip.

Days since the start of the AT: 90

Average daily mileage (zeros and near zeros included): 12.2

Average daily mileage I need to finish before August 31: 14.1

Completed statuses: 6

States left to complete: 8

Most miles traveled in a day: 19.9 (on 6/13)

Weight: lost about 30 pounds

Shoe size: top size from 8.5 for women to 8.5 for men

Pairs of shoes used: 3

Falls: 8

Critters seen on the trail: deer, turtles, frogs, squirrels, snakes, chipmunks, other unidentified rodents, cats, butterflies, beetles, bees, birds, spiders, ants and all types of insects.

Favorite places: Shenandoah, Max Patch, Roan Highlands, pine forests in PA

Least favorite place: Dragon’s Tooth and its horrible steep, rocky trail.

Finished books (Kindle and audio): 24

Money spent: around $3,500

Lost hats: 1

The guy I didn’t think I would be: the one who takes vitamin I (ibuprofen) every night

Guy I Knew It Would Be: I Don’t Mind Talking Team

Greatest strengths: Consistency, meeting mileage goals, not complaining

Major weaknesses: being a rainy baby, slow pace, antisocial, finds it difficult to eat enough

What bothers you the most: When hikers are behind you and are about to pass, but they don’t greet you until they are on top of you.

The biggest mental change: less daily anxiety

Excitement level for the northern half: moderate to high!
