East Bengal midfielder Miguel Figueira is set to make a move to rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant ahead of the upcoming season as the Mariners look to strengthen their squad for the Indian Super League.
Figueira joined the Red and Gold brigade and scored three goals while providing 10 assists as the club won the Indian men’s top flight after a 22-year wait. Playing as a number 10, he became the main architect of East Bengal’s attacks and was awarded the Golden Ball for his exploits.
His move to Bagan could be the first major transfer this season, but that depends on his medical records, after which the paperwork will be completed.
“Hello Amago fans, I come by to say goodbye to all of you and to say that it was an honor for me to play for this great club,” Figueira wrote on Instagram.
«I wish the club and all its supporters every success in the future. Thank you for everything!»
Bagan missed out on the ISL title last season due to goal difference, with the biggest concern being the lack of an effective number 10 following the departure of Greg Stewart.

Despite signing Brazilian winger Robson Robinho, the squad’s imbalance was something that former coach Jose Francisco Molina had discussed before his departure, after the AIFF Super Cup.
Figueira’s departure is expected to solve that problem, with him expected to partner Jamie Maclaren up front.
The new season of the ISL will begin on September 4, while the domestic season will begin on July 25 with the Durand Cup.
