Rahul Bheke joins Mohun Bagan Super Giant on a one-year deal

Mohun Bagan Super Giant has strengthened its defense by signing India international Rahul Bheke on a one-year deal ahead of the new season.

Bheke is a versatile defender who can play as both a central defender and a right back. He brings enormous experience. He played more than fifty international matches for India and was captain of the national team. The 34-year-old has been one of the Indian Super League’s most consistent defenders in recent seasons and is also known for scoring crucial goals from set-pieces.

Having previously played in Kolkata with East Bengal, Bheke is no stranger to the intensity of the Kolkata Derby and the expectations that come with representing one of Indian football’s biggest clubs.

«It is every Indian footballer’s dream to play for Mohun Bagan. I am extremely proud and excited to join the best club in the country,» Bheke said after his signing. «Many of my teammates from the national team are already here, so it won’t be difficult to get used to it. I want to contribute with my experience and help the team win trophies.»

The defender said Mohun Bagan’s ambition to challenge for every title is in line with his own goals.

Reflecting on his previous stint in Kolkata, Bheke recalled scoring the winner for East Bengal in a Derby against Mohun Bagan but will now hope to do the same in green and maroon.

«This time I want to win and score in the Derby against East Bengal. That is the promise I made to myself when I signed for Mohun Bagan,» he said.
