Spanish teenager Lamine Yamal scored his first FIFA World Cup goal during Spain’s Group H match against Saudi Arabia at the Atlanta Stadium on Sunday.
After a frustrating 0-0 draw against Cape Verde, the goal gave the much-needed boost to the European champions side as they bid for a second FIFA World Cup title.
Yamal was the second-youngest goalscorer for Spain at the World Cup at 18 years and 343 days, behind his Barcelona teammate Gavi, who scored at 18 years and 110 days old.
However, Yamal managed to beat Barcelona legend Lionel Messi’s record. The Argetine was 18 years and 357 days old when he scored his first World Cup goal against Serbia and Montenegro during the 2006 World Cup.
