Lionel Messi missed a penalty during Argentina’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Group J match against Austria in Dallas on Monday.
Messi took the penalty in the ninth minute after Lautaro Martinez was brought down in the penalty area and shot wide to the right of the goal.
The last time the Argentine talisman missed from the spot was against Poland during the 2022 World Cup. Messi had also missed a penalty against Iceland during the 2018 World Cup.
In all World Cup editions, Messi has scored four and missed three penalties. Throughout his career, Messi scored 116 goals from penalties and missed 32 times.
