A knee injury suffered in Monday’s defeat to Norway has ruled Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy out of Friday’s World Cup match against Iraq, his national team said on Wednesday.
Mendy suffered the injury while trying to make the save and left the field in the 63rd minute, with Norway leading 3–1. Norway won the match 3–2 after Ismaila Sarr scored his second goal in extra time.

According to media reports, Mendy, 34, had a ligament problem.
“Further medical examinations are underway to accurately assess the nature of his injury and determine the course of his participation in the competition,” the Senegalese team wrote. X.
Senegal and Iraq both suffered two defeats in their last Group I match in Toronto.
