I was going to write on my trip week by week, but this first day was a roller coaster, I felt that I deserved its own publication.
Get to continue
Committed to spending as much money as possible, I started my day catching the public bus to Las Vegas airport. This was the easiest part.
I had been waiting for a previous flight to Denver since time was essential. I knew that nightly hiking would be trapped (I hate night hiking) for a little due to camping rules at the beginning of the path. The only area on the Colorado path that cannot camp is Waterton Canyon, which is the first 7 miles when they start in Denver. This meant that I needed to go at least 7 miles the first day before I could throw my store.
I had to get to the airport long before my scheduled flight to try a waiting seat. They don’t let him know that he has been approved to fly until boarding time. Buti in my homemade egg and cheese burrito and waited nervously. It was around this time that I realized that my new phone (Google Pixel 7 7) did not have a headphones and need to find an adapter to use my headphones. We all know that the trip really does not start until you learn what you forgot to pack. I also forgot the sunglasses. The faults joined quickly.
Finally, I received the text that had made the cut and I was flying long earlier than expected. My original flight was also delayed 2 hours, so this was a break of luck.
I caught public transport from Denver airport to the center of Rei. There I bought a fuel boat and an elegant backpack meal with the rest of my dividend plus $ 3.08 of my own pocket. The line in Rei was long and I really felt the time it was at 6 pm from there, I accelerated a few blocks to the train D that would take me to the Littleton/Mineral station, as close as close to public transport before calling an Uber (shared travel option, of course).
The Uber driver was very confused when he left me at 730 pm in the parking lot and asked me where my hotel was.
Initial path
I broke up in Waterton Canyon, spending signs warning about loading alces. A motorcyclist in his way home wished me good luck. The land was flat, but my 6 days of food weighed on my shoulders and they decelerated me.
Around mile 2.5 I decided that I needed dinner. I stopped in a picnic bank and warmed some water just to realize that the food I just bought in rei takes 20 minutes to rehydrate.
With the sunset and my night of anxiety walk in full apogee after signs on lions and mountain bears, I added hot water to the bag and kept walking, food in my hand. When I passed the dam to mile 3.3 I was already dark, and ate shortly after. The insects were attracted to my lighthouse, so I ate in the dark. Things were not going as well as I expected.
After the scarf dinner, I kept walking at my 3 mph neck rhythm. My head was in a turn, constantly looking and wondering what animal would come to me. Rushing’s Arroyo did not help, since I could barely hear my own thoughts and much less somewhat stalking me.
After 2.5 hours, I arrived at the part of the path where it is reduced and allowed to camp. I decided to spend more mile to a bank. Above, I went, even more terrified in this densely wooded area, but everything was silent. After hours of positive conversation, I was just 0.1 miles from my camp! Hurra, I thought nothing will eat me alive now. That thought was a moment too soon, I’m afraid.
Around a curve, my lighthouse caught the two -eyed reflection just below the Torre de la Vuelta. I called, but nothing happened. I checked my map and I realized that I was not close to the site so that the bright orbs were a tent or other team of hikers. I retired. Terrified, I weighed my options. I decided to advance a bit. This time, whatever he turned, it is the head and that sealed it. Below the switches, I went. I returned to the sign «Camping allowed here» and configured my store right next door, with trembling hands. I got into a long night of sleep, waiting for what he looked at me in the dark to come to find me.
