The Argentina-Jordan Group J match saw early VAR drama when the on-field referee, István Kovács, used a video review to award the South American side a penalty in the 30th minute.
Kovacs saw Argentine forward Julian Alvarez fouled by Jordanian captain Ehsan Haddad in the penalty area and awarded a penalty.
Replays showed Hadad kicked Alvarez in the face as the latter attempted a diving header after Lautaro Martinez’s attempt bounced off the goal post.
Martinez took the penalty and converted it for his first World Cup goal, giving Argentina a 2–0 lead.
Earlier, Giovani Lo Celso had given Argentina the lead by firing in a free kick from close range.
