Why was DR Congo’s goal against Uzbekistan disallowed in the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

DR Congo’s goal against Uzbekistan was disallowed in the Group K 2026 FIFA World Cup match at the Atlanta Stadium on Saturday.

The African side appeared to have equalized in the 17th minute when Nathanael Mbuku finished brilliantly into the top corner.

But a Video Assistan reference suggested Mbuku had grabbed Sherzod Nasrullaev’s face with his arm in the build-up to the goal.

The referee walked to the monitor and determined that it was a foul by Mbuku and ultimately disallowed the goal.
