Julian Quinones starred with a goal and assist as Mexico held off Ecuador from a 2-0 victory on Tuesday to reach the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Quinones put Mexico ahead in the 22nd minute with a thrilling breakaway goal. Just over ten minutes later he set up Raul Jimenez for the second as the home crowd erupted in jubilation.
This is Mexico’s World Cup knockout victory since 1986. The North American side will now face the winner of the round of 32 between England and DR Congo.
