Who will Norway face in the round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

Norway continued its momentous return to the FIFA World Cup on Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast to seal a spot in the round of 16 at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Antonio Nusa opened the scoring for the Norwegians, who are playing in the tournament after 28 years. Although Amad Diallo equalized for the Ivorians, Erling Haaland’s late tap-in ensured his team safely progressed to the pre-quarter-finals.

Who will Norway face in the round of 16?

Norway will face Brazil in the eighth finals. The clash has a hint of nostalgia as the Nordic country had defeated the South American side 2-1 in the group stage of the tournament.

Stale Solbakken, Norway’s coach at the 2026 World Cup, had played that match as a substitute for Havard Flo.

Norway have reached the round of 16 twice before, in 1938 and 1998, but have failed to progress past that round – something they will be looking to improve on against Brazil this year.
