Breakfast
I woke up at 5.30 in the morning without yesterday after a very quiet day. The temperature of the last days was a distant memory, and the desire to pack and start was palpable.
I found an essential breakfast and an instant oat package in the hiker box of the state park, and decided to try them. I opened the packages and poured a little water and gave them a couple of minutes to reach edibility. Keep in mind that the threshold for a food to be edible for an hiker is an incredibly low bar and the truth is that it could probably have opened the packages, tilting them in the mouth’s hole and pouring water to wash it.
After waiting for almost a minute, then I mixed the two packages and pushed my spoon. Delicious. I do not know what is essential of breakfast, which I know is me.
I made fun of the lot very fast and was on the way at 6.15 am
Seven mortal promotions
Almost immediately my senses were flooded with hurried water. The first kilometers took me beyond the ponds and waterfalls, a really fantastic way of starting the day.
This very easy terrain and a reasonably flat beginning would soon be behind me while heading towards the first of seven promotions, and the first was the longest in duration.
I walked down the hill and after an hour seeing another hiker above. As much as I mean that seeing another person in front of me does not affect my march, the truth is that my mind generally decides to see how fast I can catch and pass to the poor human who has fallen into my line of vision.
Today I was lucky. My quarry had heard my approach and his response to a person who caught them was to accelerate, since they did not want to be approved.
And then the game had begun. Inexorably, I made a land in the young man of the university, since it bravely told his legs to drive faster through the mountain.
Finally, the middle -aged man went to the university graduate, and committed the young man in a conversation during the next hour more or less while dragging him at my uphill. It was a great laugh and we enjoyed the Ramble.
It is not frequent that I am surprised in the forest, but this ladder was striking. He was secured to the rock with a thin piece of rope, so he admired the code. I went down quickly in case.
Water
This was the first path since it started in New York, where he was thirsty. My usual strategy on a path like the at where the water is everywhere is to drink 1L of water before starting the walk of the day, and then drink another liter or two at points along the path. This method is called ‘Camelado up’ and means that path without any weight of water in my backpack.
Today, this strategy was stretched by the lack of water sources in the first 14 km. I had risen and descended more than four of the seven hills for the day and had not yet hit the water.
The good news, of course, is that a human can spend three days before dying of thirst, so he only had two of the road to expire.
Finally, I hit a water source and drank it for fifteen minutes as if I had been in the desert for forty days and nights.
Explosions
On any forest path in the world you find fallen trees. Sometimes they are a minor inconvenience, they require a jump, jump or jump, and other times … they are a problem. This spill required some navigation outside the paths, since it must have happened recently, and there was no clear path available on both sides of the great breath.
At lunchtime it had covered a little more than 16 km, and I was looking for a place to eat when I met Chestnut. Yesterday he had advanced through heat and was pleased by today’s freshest climate.
We have lunch next to a road crossing and then advanced towards the camp.
Three more climbing and descents and finally we were in the shelter at night.
I quickly configured my store and hammock, and collapsed my body in my oscillating gadget and allowed my body to rest a little. I had registered 1500m for elevation gain for the day, a new maximum for me on this path.
I rewarded my efforts with a double branches that almost made me feel half. I fell into a deep sleep at 8:30 pm, just 30 minutes from sunset.
