Why isn’t Lucas Paqueta playing in the Brazil-Norway FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 16 match?

Midfielder Lucas Paqueta was left out of Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup last 16 tie against Norway at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

The Flamengo player has been ruled out of the remainder of the World Cup unless the Canaries reach the top-flight clash on July 19.

Paqueta suffered a hamstring injury during Brazil’s closely contested Round of 32 against Japan, which ended in a 2-1 win for the five-time champions.

In the ongoing edition, Paqueta had started all four matches prior to the last 16 match and had 236 minutes to his name. He also provided an assist in the match against Haiti, setting up Vinicius Junior.

The winner of the clash between Brazil and Norway will face the winner of another Round of 16 match between Mexico and England in the quarter-finals.
