Cristiano Ronaldo was again on the edge of the Portuguese attacks on Monday during the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup in Dallas.
In the first 45 minutes, Ronaldo had only twelve ball contacts, the fewest of all Portuguese players. Both goalkeepers, Unai Simon from Spain (21) and Diogo Costa from Portugal (22), had more ball contacts than Ronaldo.
However, despite his limited involvement, Ronaldo made two shots and both were on target, requiring Simon’s intervention. He attempted nine passes during the half and completed seven.
He remained the goalkeeper for Portugal throughout the first half as the other playmakers around him tried to find the breakthrough pass to Ronaldo in the penalty area.
