Who are the players at risk of a yellow card suspension in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup?

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be a huge success, with just eight teams left in contention, out of the 48 that started the tournament.

Seven more matches (excluding the third-place play-offs) in the quadrennial tournament will help us identify the team worthy of becoming world champions.

Playing in the semi-finals and finals of the biggest tournament will be one of the biggest matches in players’ lives. Twenty members from different teams are in danger of missing that opportunity, provided their team makes progress, if they receive another warning in the last eight.

Here is a list of players who have already received a booking in the first two knockout rounds and are at risk of ban:

  • Issa Diop (Morocco)

  • Achraf Hakimi (Morocco)

  • Redouane Halhal (Morocco)

  • Bilal El Khannouss (Morocco)

  • Azzedine Ounahi (Morocco)

  • Issa Diop (Morocco)

  • Manu Kone (France)

  • Michael Olise (France)

  • Bradley Barcola (France)

  • Declan Rice (England)

  • Jude Bellingham (England)

  • Nico O’Reilly (England)

  • Marc Guehi (England)

  • Antonio Nusa (Norway)

  • Gonzalo Montiel (Argentina)

  • Granit Xhaka (Switzerland)

  • Denis Zakaria (Switzerland)

  • Miro Muheim (Switzerland)

  • Ferran Torres (Spain)

  • Brandon Mechele (Belgium)

When will yellow cards be scrapped in FIFA World Cup 2026?

According to FIFA rules, players must serve a one-match ban if they receive two yellow cards in two different matches. In previous editions, yellow cards were abolished after the quarter-final.

This time, however, due to the extra knockout round, the few yellow cards will be wiped out after the group stage and again after the quarter-finals.
