3/7/26
Today we just walked 2.5 miles to Gorham, NH to grab a Nero at the Libby Hostel.
The usual city tasks were performed, including showering, doing laundry, and resupplying food.
Then I went swimming at the local watering hole; It was wonderful!
Wind Walker and I had a late lunch at the local brewery…oh, brewskis too (just me).
Return to the lodge to relax and plan the days ahead. Dinner was a bag of fries and a pint of Ben & Jerry’s!
It’s funny how things fall into place along the way. Old and new friends meet in the city… especially in the hostels. I had avoided hostels for quite some time, but now I really like them. This is mainly because of the camaraderie shared with other hikers. It’s really quite special.
Today I miss home a little. July 3rd is the unofficial Christmas celebration at our local lake, including the usual barbecues, picnics, and fireworks. We go every year; but not me, this year. But I’m with my tracking partners, and that certainly helps.
We talked about everything “trail” related. Nowadays it’s all about finishing as we’re almost in Maine. The feeling is bittersweet. Most are looking forward to finishing this incredible journey, but at the same time, there is sadness about it. It’s hard to explain. I’m a flip-flop, which means I’ll still have to complete the southern half, after Katahdin… but I still feel that feeling. I have met some of the kindest and friendliest people on this trip, and I will surely miss them once this is all over.

11 miles to imp shelter site.
Happy Independence Day!
A couple miles to Carter Notch Hut where we got free blueberry coffee cake, yum! Then it was UP! I hiked over Carter Dome, Mt. Hight, then Middle and North Carter Mountains. This was not a horrible day.
The highlight of the day was watching the fireworks, in Gorham, from our vantage point high on the mountain. It was great!

8 miles today, easy.
We hiked up and over Mount Moriah, then down along the Rattle River, to Route 2. We hitchhiked back to Libby Shelter, where we spent another night.

6/7/26
17.1 miles today. The Libby Hostel dropped us off on Route 2 and the hike started around 6:45am. After a short road hike, we headed up Cascade Mountain, just to warm up our legs. After that, it was up and down for miles. I passed a couple of prime moose habitat ponds, but alas, there were no moose…just moose poop.
Next came Mount Success, which I successfully summited, after about 2 miles of climbing. I was getting a little tired at this point.
The big accomplishment came shortly after…Mr. Peanut and I crossed into Maine, wow! Part of me can’t believe I’ve made it this far, but here I am, just 280 miles from Mount Katahdin! I should be done with the northern half of the AT by the end of the month…holy shit!
Keep walking! Acorn
