I hate the objectives, but I love commitments. That’s where magic happens. And this walk, this 34 mile wild walk through the landscapes of another world of Iceland, is a commitment to become the strongest and clear version of myself.
So why Islandia? Why now? Here are ten reasons why I am tieding my boots and I go to the Laugavegur path.
1. I own who I am
I have realized that hiking is not a phase, it is part of me. I am not chasing a trend. I am based on something real. The path gives my life rhythm, challenge and purpose. It is where I remember who I am.
2. For my physical health
Like a 45 -year -old black man, I am here overcoming probabilities. The way to fight heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity. Every step I take is one step away from statistics and strength.
3. For my mental health
Over there, the constant buzz of life is silent. Without emails, without meetings, and best of all, silence the talk without stopping in my head. Hiking helps me to restore, breathe and find some mental peace, even if only for a few miles.
4. For my emotional health
Duel, stress, divorce: life becomes heavy. The path does not erase the weight, but he teaches me how to carry it. Over there, I feel everything. And somehow, through mud and miles, I begin to let something go.
5. To feed my spirit
There is something sacred in wild places. I think the path provides, not always what I want, but often exactly what I need. A change in the climate that humbles me. A stranger who shares a story that comes home. A quiet moment that reminds me that I am not alone. It is not magical, but it could be close.
6. Because I feel alive there
The path does not numb me, he wakes me up. My heart accelerates. My senses sharp. After years of knowing the darkness, hiking is my light. I long for that vitality. It is pursued by mile.
7. For my children
I want my children to see how resilience looks in motion. I want them to know that healing is not passive, it is active. We don’t have to get trapped. That we can grow, get up and continue walking forward, even when life demolishes us.
8. See while I can
They visually deteriorate me. Every mile that was walking is a way of clinging to the gift of sight a little more. I want to see all the glaciers, volcano and open sky stretch while I can still.
9. I am diabetic and prosperous
Due to hiking, my health is better now than in my veins. Iceland is not just a trip, it is the next milestone on a trip that is transforming my body and my life.
10. Keeps me underway
When Iceland is on the calendar, I appear differently. I train in the rain. I walk when I am tired. That fire, that forward movement, that is what keeps me alive.
Not only go to Iceland. I am introducing myself to me. I am rewriting my story. I leave my mark on purpose.
This is not just a walk.
It is a statement.
