PCT SOBO DAY 11 – This made everything worth

Day 11

Home: SITKUM Creek, Mile 141.2

END: Lake Sally Ann, Mile 159.2

Walked miles: 18 miles

Today I had a lazy beginning of the day. I was still tired of yesterday and I had to conquer a great climb again today. When people say that section K is difficult, believe them! It seems that there is a challenge every day.

The first 3 miles of the day were quite crucial, although it had too many coatings too early in the morning. But soon they ended and I could walk freely, still moving a little slowly but on the flat terrain for the most part.

Too soon, I had to start climbing. It was hard! My legs burned when I pushed for the steep changes that were too challenging for my worn body. After fighting for a while, I took a breath of fresh air in the middle, beautiful meadow. The path was not so steep and there were even some flat places.

The last third of the climb saw a lot of snow, but it was very fun. I took careful steps on the frequent snow journey, but none of them was above the falls that threatened life. Once at the top, a fat marmot was waiting for me. It was so nice! He cooled (literally) in a snow patch and posed for me. I had too fun creating an impromptu photo shoot with him.

The surrounding views were so impressive; I wanted to absorb my triumphant climb and eat there, but there were too many flies! Once I started walking to the other side, my disappointment vanished. I was in a photo! Each flower, mountain and grass sword was perfectly placed. I even had my first look at Mount Rainier! I stopped so many times to take photos, I even bothered.

I found my place of lunch in a picturesque chair and realized that all the fight of the last 48 hours was worth the opportunity to enjoy a few moments in this place. There was nothing else I wanted at that time.

After lunch, the day warmed up and got slower. There were so many captivating landscapes to spend the day, but I began to get tired. I wanted to pass the Sally Ann lake, but once I got there, I didn’t want to move. Well, my feet needed the rest anyway. The day of the city is the day after tomorrow! I can’t wait to get a hamburger.

And that is a day in the life of a PCT Sobo hiker!
