Eastern Bengal vs Mohun Bagan – CFL Derby postponed, to be held in Kalyani on July 26

The first Kolkata derby of the season, between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan Super Giant, was postponed from July 19 to July 26 due to operational challenges in the Kalyani Stadium.

Both clubs had prepared for the game, but in the night of July 17, the Calcutta Football League (CFL) authorities told them that the game would not take place as planned.

«We have provided the revised competition for the CFL Premier Division Group A below. This is for your information and necessary action,» wrote Anirban Dutta, secretary of the Indian Football Association (IFA), in an official communication, stating the new date and kick -off time.

Although no official reason was given, it is clear that preparing the land – both the field and the stands – proved difficult for approval from the local police on time.

Moreover, Mohun Bagan, who played a match on July 16, was reportedly for the extra preparation time for the derby. However, the club has denied this claim.

«Mohun Bagan is not worried about the planning. The team will be ready when the game is played. Our only care is the pitch condition, which our coaches criticized after the last game. If that is solved, we have no problems,» said a club source, a club source said Sports star.

Representatives from both clubs and the IFA secretary met on July 17 to discuss the issues. The possibility of moving the game to Barasat was also considered.

It was finally decided among themselves that the Ronde 7 match would be played in the same Kalyani stage a week later, on July 26, kicked off at 5:30 PM.

East Bengal comes in the derby after a 0-1 defeat against Pathachakra FC, while Mohun Bagan comes in with confidence after a 2-1 victory over Kalighat.
