Walking between volcanoes in northern lime

North Cal has been a little inspiring after the Sierra section, but I have still managed to find some jewels.

Feeling the burn

I stayed at the Antler Inn in Chester. I have been quite lucky to be mainly in shelters or share ABNB, which has been quite economical. However, I was left without luck and I was forced to stay in a single -bed hotel that cost a lot. For the cost of that night in Chester, I could have stayed in a shelter for about four nights. I got up the next day and had a good breakfast in a coffee next to the hotel. Supposedly, the city bus would take him to the road and he was supposed to be at the bus stop at 9:24. Of course he never showed. Fortunately, I saw some hikers on the other side of the street and asked them how they were leaving the path. They had an angel of trails taking a walk and said they had space for one more person. Although the bus was not frustrated, things always seem to work.

We arrive on the path outside of Chester. The people with whom I left were younger but closer to my age, so we started talking and walked with them for the day. The only couple was slow (husband) and stable (wife). And then the other two were Stider and his daughter Mountain Lion, 9 years old. I was very impressed with Mountain Lion. At 9 -year -old mature old age he has completed the AT with his father and is in the middle of the PCT. Very impressive!

Hiking through the burning zone north of Chester

The walk for the day was through a burning section. I thought I was jumping these sections, but I guess I was not far enough. The day struggled. The walk was through burnt trees and thorny bushes about the growth that cut my legs, I had to zip on the legs of my pants to prevent my legs from destroying me. The worst section I have walked on the way. The day ended well when we reached a small background forests camp. The camp gave PCT hikers access to a lot, so there were about 20 tents crowded in it. It was a little crazy but quite fun. I met many new people and even found a guy I had not seen since the first day on the PCT. He reminded me and ran. The camp had a restaurant for the usual campers, but did not serve PCT hikers. However, they sold us soft drinks. I had so thirst and dehydrated from the walk that I asked for two chefs and an ice glass. I demolished them both in the spot. While walking back to the camp, I had to erurate. When I buried, Coca Cola’s foam was coming, not just the air. I guess I have never knocked down 2 chefs like that. I just followed foam in my mouth. It was really strange, but that is the only way the gas came out. ha ha ha. When I returned to the camp, I remembered that I had a couple of NASA of NASA of Artemis and some NASA stickers, so I gave Little Mountain Lion the «SGT Pepper Hocking Excellence Award» and I gave it one of my coveted pins and stickers. He seemed very happy to get them.

Walking along the volcano crest

In fact, I had a good night in the camp. The next day’s walk was more a combustion section. It was not great, but at least the growth of thorny bushes was not as bad as the day before. I also obtained my first vision of the Lassen volcano, which was quite good. The path crosses the Lassen National Park, so that was something new. The path goes up on a path of the tire, so I got a lot of good views of the Lassen volcano, Burney Mountain and the Valley below. It was also a beautiful level facts for a quite fast hiking. This section has a lot of lava rock, which is difficult to walk, it reminds me a little of Pennsylvania Rock in the AT. The path is also extremely dirty. When you walk a fine dust it is stirred and makes you dirty, I am sure that it is probably not good to breathe. I found a good camp on the crest and had the place for me.

My feet look like this every day from the dusty path

The next day I had a short walk near the city of Old Station. I did not go to the city, but there was a restaurant near the path, so he could get a breakfast. After breakfast, I followed a short Blaze Blaze path to some lava tube caverns that was really great. The Metro cave has approximately 1000 feet and formed during lava flows. Another great feature of the day was that we obtained our first vision of the Mount Shasta volcano. The rest of the day he walked along the crest and through the lava rock fields. This is a dry and very long and very long section with long hauling. Fortunately, we met an angel of trails doing caches of water who is really critical for hikers in these sections. God bless you, make such a valuable service. He even took our packages so that we could loosen 4 miles until his next cache.

I had planned to be on the path 4.5 days before reaching my destination for the next replenishment, which was the guest ranch of Burney Mountain. Because I have been doing more than 20 days since the last replenishment, I arrived there on the fourth day, so I am taking a zero to do all my tasks and replenish. This place is incredible. Fantastic everything you can dine last night with salad and dessert. So everything you can have breakfast buffet this morning. It is a dream of hikers. It is very quiet and relaxing, they even have a pool that I will see!

Reflecting my next movement

After studying a lot from my remaining walk, I have determined that I am probably about a week or so. I decided to jump another section at the end of the section next week. I really hate to do it, but if I finish early, I will go down again and make the area that skip me. My concern is that I don’t want to have to omit any of Washington. North Cal is probably the least desirable section of the path, so if I have to miss some, I would prefer to be here.
