Colombia did not succeed in taking advantage of his numerical benefit in the last group B match on Friday in the Women’s Copa America, while the reigning champion Brazil kept it a scoreless draw, even though it was a player.
The goalkeeper Lorena van Brazil was shown a red card in the 21st minute after handling the ball outside the penalty area in an attempt to stop Linda Caicedo’s shot during a fast Colombian counterattack.
After consultation with assistant referee Mariana Aquino, referee Milagros Arruela Lorena fired, so that Brazil had to rely on replacement goalkeeper Claudia for the rest of the match.
Although he had an extra player, Colombia was unable to break the impasse, with attempts by Valerin Loboa and Mayra Ramirez who could not find the back of the net.
«Today was a very tough game, very tiring, and we wanted to win, but now we have to keep working for what is coming,» Loboa said after the game.
Brazil was determined in the defense and tried in the second half to take the lead with attempts by Yasmim, Gabi Portilho and Dudinha, but they were all not successful.
It came closest to a free kick from Yasmim in extra time that the bar hit.
«We knew it would be a very difficult game, but we are very proud of this result with one player less. Now it’s time to rest and think about the semi -final,» said Portilho.
Both teams were already ready until the semi -final and group B leader Brazil will be confronted with Uruguay on Tuesday. In the meantime, Runner-Up Colombia, with eight points, will record group A leader Argentina on Monday
