Last night, I was discussing to a large extent if the ferry of 7:15 am this morning or 8 am should be taken. The difference seems so mild and I would have let me sleep in a time. But I knew the ferry was going to take a long time. So I woke up around 5 in the morning and packed. Then he walked along the road to Schatts Bakery to get some cakes and coffee. Then I went along the road and I had a little less than one mile to get to the station where the buses are collected.
The famous bakery. There are locations in Los Bishop and Mammoth.
While walking, I found myself at Mammoth Mountain. I had the fun idea of trying to get hooked there. I arrived about 40 minutes before the bus and I would only have to sit there and wait. And regardless, the bus stops along the way of me and in Mammoth Mountain. I ended up taking out my thumb and the first vehicle stopped. The boy was an electrician from Mammoth Mountain and took me right there.
That did not necessarily save me at any time. But I have to sit and relax in Mammoth Mountain instead of waiting for my bus and sitting on the bus. I ate my cakes and drank my coffee and talked to some of the people who are also waiting for the bus. I also had service there and managed to get a blog and a video. He simply ended up feeling much more relaxing than hanging out on the bus and slowly going along those mountain roads.
Entering a personal favorite desert.
The bus still arrived, and everyone who expected came to return to Reds Meadow. That section of the bus trip was definitely the longest because the road is practically a lane most of the road. I talked with more people while I was on the bus that I was doing walks and walks in the section. In fact, a couple of people also recognized me from my videos. Then, just before 8:30 am, they dropped us in Reds Meadow.
Heading towards Thousand Island Lake.
I was happy to walk at this time and definitely did not seem too late. Taking into account that I arrived from the city and I had to take a very long bus, since he returned along the way around 8:30 am, I felt solid. The days are so long now that I can easily obtain 25 miles today, maybe even more. Once I left the Reds Meadow, I stayed on an alternative path for a few miles. There is a bridge that has been washed on the PCT, which can avoid using this alternative. People have been seeing the river or crossing a trunk instead. But if there is a way to avoid that, I will take it.
The path was pleasant and gradual for most of the morning. Then I began to address another mountain pass.
After an hour or so, I returned to the PCT and the path was really pleasant and easy for the day. There are still a couple of mountain passes to do in the mountains. But by Reds Meadow, most of the great climbs and passes are behind you. For the most part, the path was really pleasant and gradual. I went through some different hikers and went through many areas of trail camp. I was able to throw garbage a couple of times, which was also great.
Impressive views, as usual!
After walking for a couple of hours, I began to climb the next pass. The views were excellent, and the temperature was quite perfect. It has still been very hot during the afternoons. But this is the north of California basically, so there really is no way to avoid that. On my way up, I found a couple of girls that I met on the bus yesterday. Then I got up and started my next descent.
It was fun to see how the terrain changes from a pine forest to a more mountainous terrain.
Somewhere along the descent, a girl approached me and said she knew me! I looked at her and she seemed so familiar. But this year I have had many problems to place people. I think it’s because I have known and seen many people during the last year and a couple of years. Sometimes I see someone and I can’t remember what path we are in. And especially this year, all the paths are a great revolting in my mind. It turned out to be Avena, whom I met on the path of the Appalaches 2023. He is doing the Muir path! That was a really great surprise.
Oatmeal! Our paths crossed a couple of times different times on the path of the Apalaches in 2023.
It was so nice to see her! And I spent a lot of JMT hikers during the day. Tomorrow morning I will pass the crossing where the JMT and the PCT are separated. I am sure I will continue to see many hikers in the section after that point. But I will not see JMT hikers. Not long after I meet her, I stopped and filled in a water source. Then, I just planned to continue sailing and get as far as I could for the day. When I was obtaining water, I thought I saw face, the hiker JMT, whom I have now met a couple of times. I thought it could be her because I spent most yesterday in the gigantic lakes. What would have given him some time to catch up. But who was packed and headed on the path before reaching them.
Impressive views near the mountain pass.
The rest of the day really had a good and easy. I had to upload a final climb and then it was literally downhill and flat for the rest of the day. Tomorrow morning it will be basically flat during the first 10–14 miles. The part of the PCT surrounding Tuolumne Meadows in Yosemite is very flat. Since basically passes through a valley. In general, it had ended up having a great time for the day. They were only around 6 pm and had already gone more than a marathon. So I decided to walk to the most possible camp before Yosemite’s limit. Basically, there is a final campaign point before entering a Prado area. And the hikers are not supposed to camp beyond that point. He would go to the last marked site where the comments declared that «the rangers came to allow us, but they said we were well to camp here.»
This was probably one of my favorite passes so far. He felt like a situation of low energy and high reward. The climb was not too hard, but the views were exceptional.
Around this time I met the hiker I had seen before. And it was expensive! Apparently I had gone to VVR the other day. Then he spent a great day yesterday and got into a super gigantic at night. But her family is from there, so they collected her around 9 pm in Reds Meadow. Then he returned very early this morning. This is how we are again.
Walking along a well -careful path for a while. While I got off the mountain pass
Officially entering Yosemite’s desert.
We walk together during the last 4 miles of the day to that camp. He also planned to camp in the last place available before camp restriction. It was nice to have someone to chat and walk to finish the day. And when we arrived at the final site of the campaign, there were a lot of people established there. Probably about five tents and some of them had children inside.
After a while, the path fell in this valley. And basically I will walk through this flat valley during the next 12 miles.
But we managed to find a good flat place for each preparation. Then I took my tent and boiled water to make a dinner. It was very nice and early and we arrived at the camp long before it darkened. I did a little work, but I was quite tired and I wasn’t awake too late. Then, tomorrow morning, I will enter Tuolumne Meadows just in time for your store to open at 8 am for breakfast.
