Thanks to everyone who has written me in, I am grateful: Chloe Kelly after scoring Euro 2025-winning punishment for England

It almost felt like football Lot when Chloe Kelly went to the penalty spot against Spain on Sunday, with the chance to write history for England in conquering his second consecutive ladies European Championship title.

The 27-year-old, who had been doubtful to make the euro team of Sarina Wiegman only six months ago, put her characteristic run, lifted her left leg and jumped her to the right before she launched a powerful shot in the upper corner.

«Incredible football game. I just got to the field and wanted to happen to something,» said Kelly.

«Of course, taking the penalty, I missed three in training (but) yesterday it is the belief in this team, I am really proud to be English now and proud to be part of a great group of girls.»

Kelly was the hero in the victory of England in the 2022 in Wembley and scored in extra time before she turned her shirt in the celebration above her head.

She came to save in Switzerland several times in Switzerland, scored in the shootout in their quarter -final victory over Sweden and hit her own rebound of a missed penalty against Italy in the semi -final.

«I was cool, I was composed and I knew I would hit the back of the net. I didn’t miss the penalties twice,» she said about her winning spot kick.

Kelly’s Switzerland story is remarkable, seen in January, there were doubts that she would make the Euro team. She hardly played for Manchester City and made a public plea to leave the club.

She called them «dark days».

Kelly’s plea worked as she spent the rest of the season on a successful loan saying with Arsenal.

«I am so grateful that I am out of the back,» said Kelly. «Thanks to everyone who has written me in. I am grateful,» she added.

Wiegman wrapped the crying Kelly in a long hug.

«Everyone brings something different, and she brings this,» said Wiegman. «She fought to come back and be at her highest level. Of course she really wanted to take that penalty and celebrate that.»

Kelly didn’t wait long to celebrate. Before she started a television interview, she took the microphone to sing to «Sweet Caroline» that was eradicated by the English crowd in St Jakob park.

«It’s going crazy,» she said about the reception at home. «I hope that the whole of England comes out to support us and show their love to these girls while they earn it.»

The lion ribbons, which lost in the World Cup final of 2023, have spoken of Legacy in Switzerland.

«It’s a huge moment. Every girl there with that dream – you can do it,» she said. «Keep photographing for the stars.»
