Day 22
Home: Steering site, mile 337.0
End: White Pass, Kracker Barrel, Mile 357.7
Walked miles: 20.7 miles
Wow, last night it was very cold! I procrastinated putting me swollen for too long. I missed the dawn blushing on Mount Rainier, choosing instead burying my head even more in the warmth of my comforter for a few more minutes. When I got up and packed, the air continued to be cold for much of the morning descent. Sun and I jumped into each other while we both ran through the city.
The only thing that was really in mind was to obtain warm food in Kracker Barrel in White Pass. No, it is not the true «cookie barrel», but apparently they are very friendly and complacent with what a hiker would need.
The day passed mainly in the forest, without steep or strenuous climbs, only an endless gradual uphill. I went to a family of hikers who seemed to be a grandfather, uncle and 2 nieces around 4 and 6. They were trying to teach the youngest to cross the trunk on the stream. When he complained with fear: «I don’t want to go to the registration,» I assured him: «I don’t like records of records.»

They let me pass while the girl gathered her courage. Fortunately, this was a large and wide record that was very stable and easy to walk. Once I crossed and walked a little beyond the stream, I heard a choir of cheers and congratulations. I think I had succeeded!
Above and I went, beyond some lakes that seemed attractive if it were not for mosquitoes. When I stopped for lunch at a crossroads, I had to wrap my earth sheet around my legs and put on my wind shirt, sun gloves and network to protect myself. They were absolutely implacable. The hiker of the section yesterday happened to me and we told ourselves our elegant and dismissed.

The next 11 miles were non -stop. And that is not just because I wanted to get to the city. If I stopped for a second, the mosquitoes found me instantly and swarmed. I couldn’t rest even if I had wanted to. Soon, the path turned downhill and I only had a few more miles. I could do this!
When I finally saw the two yellow lines in the middle of the road, I felt very relieved. There is only half a mile! Around 4 pm, I got on the notable brown service station and asked: «Is this the Kracker barrel?»
«Sure! You did!»

The assistant was very cozy; They told me where everything was and how all their systems worked. They had a laundry registration sheet and showers, although I would have to wait until tomorrow to register in the clothes since all the slots were filled during the day. For my food, I bought a slice of pizza, french fries, a cookie with chocolate sparks and a sprite. It wasn’t the healthiest food, but hey, I needed calories.
Outback, there was an area full of picnic tables configured only for hikers. I saw some family faces and I met everyone. There were at least 10 hikers hanging out, some nobles, some suns, some through hikers, some section hikers. We share what to expect in each section and what to take into account.
Ready for a place to take a dwell and lay down, I got a room next to the Village Inn. Sun and I shared the place since it was quite spacious. The rest of the night spent it doing homework, chatting with concierge and relaxing in the living room with more snacks. Sun and I tried to find something to put on television, but the only channel that worked was the food network. I guess that will serve.
And that is a day in the life of a PCT Sobo hiker!
