PCT SOBO DAY 23 – Entering the Goat Rocks desert

Day 23

Home: White Pass, Kracer Barrel, Mile 357.7

END: TENTSITE, MILLA 371.5

Walked miles: 13.8 miles

The first business order for the day was to wash clothes. Kracker Barrel has a shower and a laundry slot system that is for the first time in the first service, so Sun and I was the first to register in the laundry slot at 8 am while we waited outside to open, we talked with some section hikers who had traveled the world. They had lived on almost all the continents and had some incredible stories. While we waited to wash our clothes, have breakfast and talk. I was supposed to work in my blog’s publications, but I had too fun talking to people.

After washing clothes, he returned to the hotel to finish some last -minute tasks, then we returned to the hiker area to hang out and lunch. Looking at the sky, it was a great day with cloud cover. I was happy for the rest of the sun, but there was talk of rain in prognosis for tomorrow. The rain tomorrow would not be ideal because we are supposed to climb to the rock rocks. Apparently, there is a set of snow tours that could be incomplete in the rain. A hiker we talked to with broke his leg near the snow tours and went out to 18 miles to get help. Oh! There is a way to avoid them, but it implies going to a higher elevation, which would not be ideal in front of the rain. Simply keep your fingers that, regardless of the route we take, the weather would remain until we finish.

Soon, it was time to leave. We say goodbye, fill our water bottles and walk back to the path. To vary, I didn’t know what the land had reserved for me, I was just walking. And I liked that! I took the way when I arrived and did not emphasize the increases or steep sections. It was happy to ignore what the path had reserved for me.

Before realizing, we enter the Goat Rocks desert. I didn’t know anything about the area and I was impressed! The wounded path along Hogback Ridge and provided radical views of distant mountains. While we went up on the pass, we were rewarded with more impressive views of Mount Rainier. This was my type of walk!

PCT SOBO DAY 23 – Entering the Goat Rocks desert

The fresh day combined with the food of the high calorie city kept my energy throughout the afternoon. Sun and I stopped for dinner about 2.5 miles before our planned tent site. Our strategy was to approach as much as possible to tomorrow’s climb in case it rained in the afternoon. That way we could get up and on the edge of Knife and the old Nevada mountain in the morning, before the rain.

Driven for our last thrust of the day, we climbed about 700 feet before we finally found our home at night. This nice little site was involved in the trees, right next to a small meadow with beautiful purple wild flowers. Looking up, the sky seemed to clarify while we set our tents. I just expected it to be a good sign for what I held tomorrow.

And that is a day in the life of a PCT Sobo hiker!
