View: Messi pack two assists to help Inter Miami beat Atlas 2-1 in Leagues Cup 2025 Match

Inter Miami started his Leagues Cup 2025 campaign on Wednesday with a 2-1 win against Atlas FC at the Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Wednesday.

Lionel Messi, who returned from a suspension of one match because of missing the MLS All-Star match, played in the game after helping both goals scored by the herons.

The first assist from Messi came in the 58th minute, when he helped the goal of Telasco Segovia, which opened the score for Miami. Sergio Busquets found Messi in the Atlas box with a defense split. With Atlas keeper, Camilo Vargas, who was already obliged to get the ball out of Messi, the latter had the presence of the mind to fight the ball to his teammate Segovio, who had the easiest finishes of a close distance.

Messi’s match-winning assist came deep in the second half of the stop time. He found Marcelo Weigandt with an agile pass from the left, where the right-hand back finished an excellent inter-miami-attacking movement, with a tap-in from point-blank range.

The goal was initially excluded because of offside, but a VAR check confirmed that Weigandt was behind the ball when Messi spent it, and the decision was destroyed, which led to the victory of Miami and all three points for the herons.
