Sometimes, uploading a steep rock or bear game that crawls on a rock face or going down a shelf through my arms, I released a guttural sound.
The first time I did, I was ashamed. Did that sound come out of me? Who listened to it?
Then it became a launch, similar to what Walt Whitman described in «Song of Myelf, 52». Writes,
«YO Nor am I a little domesticated, I am not unknown either,
I dream my yawp barbarian on the roofs of the world.
The last scud of day is retired for me,
My similarity comes after the rest and it is true as anyone in the savages of the shadow,
Convince me to steamed and dusk. «
Walt Whitman is one of my favorite poets. His poems inspire me to continue reaching the top of the world.
The last 100 miles seem to have been a long series of my Yawps. But they have empowered me. I am strong. Bill and I stratify every night and throughout the day to overcome my many obstacles. Lately the obstacle du jour has been my shattered feet.
The solution began with a zero day and ended with new shoes: moles with rock plates. Progress has been made. KT tape has been applied. The miles are miles, no matter how slow. Now I wear a turtle around my neck to remind me that slow will take me there.
Walt Whitman’s poetry is about the beauty of America. Celebrate people! Reading your poetry is more significant now. I celebrate people every day of the employee of the convenience store that calls me rude when I apologize for my stench to my walker to my hikers who give us information about where to find water easier. Above all, hikers who reappear on the way just when I need some breath.
After accumulating Katahdin, I will spill my experience in poetry. I have already begun. But when it comes to an end, I know it will look like all the waterfalls we have seen.
